The statement says he faces charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and assault with a deadly weapon.
DHS said ICE lodged a detainer against Erasto Lopez-Gomez after North Carolina authorities charged him in a felony hit-and-run that killed 62-year-old Christopher Babcock. The statement says investigators allege Lopez-Gomez struck Babcock while he was on a motorcycle and fled the scene.
